An amazing balance of tangy, savory, sweet and spicy!! You won't ever buy store bought BBQ sauce again if you give this a try.
Ingredients:
- 1 T olive oil
- 1 cup finely diced onions
- 2 large cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup good quality bourbon whiskey
- 2 T apple cider vinegar
- 1 cup all-natural ketchup
- 2/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1 T Worcestershire sauce
- 1 T ancho chili powder or cayenne (your preference)
- 1 cup E.D. Smith Black Cherry Raspberry Blood Orange fruit spread** (Get at Costco’s exclusively)
- sea salt and ground black pepper to taste
Directions:
Heat olive oil on medium heat in sauce pan, and sweat onion and garlic until clear or about 2 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and simmer on medium low to allow alcohol to dissipate, and ingredients to combine, maybe 3 or 4 minutes stirring regularly. Allow to cool, and if you prefer smooth BBQ sauces, you can blend if you desire. Great on ribs, pulled pork, brisket or grilled chicken.
**You could substitute any cherry jam or fruit spread, but this particular E.D. Smith product has additional great fruits and flavors already in it. Perfect for BBQ!
